Aim

This one day course is developed to introduce participants to the joy of traditional lead climbing.

Course Content

Main topics are:

  • Basic rock climbing technique

  • Equipment familiarisation

  • Building anchors

  • Using rock climbing protection equipment

  • Practice of lead climbing skills

  • Guide books, climbing grades & access

  • Ethics, access & conservation

  • Abseiling

Pre-requisites

Over 18’s with a robust experience of top rope climbing. Knowing how to correctly use a helmet, harness, belay device and carabiner is a must alongside capability in tying figure of eight and bowline knots.

Location, timings & logistics

Courses normally start at 09.00 and finish at 16.00. Exceptions to this will be agreed with you in advance. 

The course meeting location is usually our HQ in Kendal. Exceptions to this will be agreed with you in advance. 

The course is flexible taking into account individual and group needs and prevailing weather conditions.
